I&#8217;ve always enjoyed James Altucher&#8217;s blog but never saw him speak until now.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Choose yourself | James Altucher | TEDxSanDiego\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xmndCPvXiik?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He had such an interesting point during the talk about what he calls &#8220;failure pornography&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It is true that the\u00a0glorification of failure is everywhere around us. You can find lots of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&amp;field-keywords=failure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">books<\/a> about it, bootcamps that teach\u00a0you how to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/robasghar\/2014\/07\/14\/why-silicon-valleys-fail-fast-mantra-is-just-hype\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fail fast<\/a>&#8220;, conferences that tell you that failure is just so awesome. It&#8217;s almost a given that you can&#8217;t succeed without failing a few times first.<\/p>\n<p>But when the time arrives, it&#8217;s a different story.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, it sucks.<\/p>\n<p>I had read many articles\u00a0about failure, went to <a href=\"http:\/\/thefailcon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FailCon<\/a> and truly believed\u00a0that failure was a step towards success. And yet when it happens to you, to your business, to what you dedicated your evenings and your weekends, it sucks.<\/p>\n<p>It sucks to fail and realize the business\/non profit you put all your heart into is not going to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>It sucks to realize that you may lose your friends over a venture. Co founder <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/women2\/2012\/03\/14\/co-founder-breakups-startup-lessons-learned-the-hard-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">breakups<\/a>\u00a0are very common and yet one of the most under-discussed issues.<\/p>\n<p>It sucks to\u00a0have to explain to your family and friends why it failed and repeat the story over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>It sucks to have to say that it was a great learning experience when you&#8217;re just not ready to say that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you have failed a business recently, give yourself the time to heal. Don&#8217;t feel that you have to say that it was a learning experience and that you learned so much more than in a corporate job. Maybe you did, but it doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/p>\n<p>Be with your pain, don&#8217;t escape it. Embrace\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/zenhabits.net\/discomfort\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discomfort<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s okay to feel like shit.<\/p>\n<p>Just believe that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandharma.org\/udharma8\/imperm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it will pass<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I watched this great TEDx video\u00a0a couple of days ago.
