And even if some leave negative comments, whether it is on your Facebook page, your blog, or a forum, there are ways to deal with criticism. And there are things you should NEVER do, no matter what. Here is an example.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/thumbs-down-large.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"thumbs-down-large\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-471\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Today, I found this <a href=\"http:\/\/booksandpals.blogspot.com\/2011\/03\/greek-seaman-jacqueline-howett.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">review<\/a>, where the book was given a grade of 2 out of 5 stars. The author Jacqueline Howett commented and the article got more than 300 comments. Here are a few comments left by the author:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-293\" title=\"Jacqueline1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/jacqueline1.png\" alt=\"Jacqueline1\" width=\"512\" height=\"159\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-294\" title=\"Jacqueline2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Jacqueline2.png\" alt=\"Jacqueline2\" width=\"491\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-296\" title=\"Jacqueline4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Jacqueline4.png\" alt=\"Jacqueline4\" width=\"467\" height=\"146\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-297\" title=\"Jacqueline5\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Jacqueline5.png\" alt=\"Jacqueline5\" width=\"238\" height=\"84\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These comments really show a real lack of tact and professionalism from the author. By reacting impulsively, commenting on the review first, defending her book &#8220;no matter what&#8221; and calling the reviewer &#8220;rat&#8221; and &#8220;snake&#8221;,\u00a0Jacqueline Howett managed to damage her reputation.<\/p>\n<p>Swearing at your potential customers or \u00a0even speaking with sarcasm as was shown in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nataliecopuroglu.com\/2011\/03\/23\/handling-social-media-requires-tact-and-common-sense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nestl\u00e9 fiasco<\/a> is NOT the right way to go. In social media, comments are for everyone to see and news spread quickly&#8230;very quickly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Here is a couple of things you should do when you receive negative comments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stop and think for a second<\/strong>: are the comments justified? Do people have a point? What is the best way to respond?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t take it personally<\/strong>: it is not YOU the person is judging, but a piece of your work at a point in time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t delete the comment<\/strong>: it is an easy way out. This doesn&#8217;t make the problem disappear.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Think about what kind of comment it is<\/strong>: is it a spammer? constructive criticism? merited attack?<\/li>\n<li><strong>React quickly<\/strong>: respond to the person online, but preferably try to take it offline as quickly as possible. Dealing with things by email will be easier for both of you. Avoid making a comment into a 10-sub comment thread, unless you think it will be valuable to other customers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brainstorm<\/strong>: if you work in a team, don&#8217;t hesitate to ask for your colleagues&#8217; opinions and advice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>STAY POSITIVE<\/strong>: the view of one person\/customer doesn&#8217;t reflect the views of your whole customer base.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how to deal with negative comments is important in social media. Only say things you would feel comfortable saying in front of a large crowd offline.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of this example?
